Bots on Youtube is nothing new. We've all seen them, whether they are spamming comment sections or publishing scam videos, we all know about them. So why hasn't Google fixed the issue? And why is the situation worse than it was a few years ago?
Bots; Hacked Accounts, Fraud, and Doxxing
We've all seen those hacked accounts in comment sections. They usually try to rage-bait users into clicking on their profile, where they will be redirected to a scam website (usually phishing or malware), allowing the attacker to take control of their account as well.
A lot of these are shell accounts that were stolen from victims. Some of the comments, though, aren't ragebait. They are random names - or so they seem.
People have theorized that these bots are trying to dox people by brute-forcing their name and address. If the comment gets through, then chances are that they didn't strike any sensitive info. But if it gets blocked, then they found part of their name or address. Youtube has always had a bot issue, but it's only been getting worse lately. Youtube needs to step up their game with anti-bot measures.
