Recently, Google has ended up removing uBlock Origin from the Chrome Web Store. Anyone who attempted to download the extension from it’s Chrome Page was greeted with a notice that the plugin might become unavailable due to Google’s new manifest for extensions.
Why?
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this potential ban is due to the war on Adblockers that Google has been waging for the past year. They’ve shown that they are against the concept many times and have gone as far as trying to ban people from using YouTube if they are detected with an adblocker.
Although this change is controversial, we have to remember that Google is an advertising company — this change is completely warranted. They make 90% of their revenue by selling space to advertisers. Their search engine festers with ads, and the more people they can show them to, the better.
What do I do?
If you have been using Chrome with an adblocker for some time, I’d recommend swapping to Firefox. This browser, made by Mozilla, has it’s own web store where uBlock isn’t (ironically) blocked.
