Welcome to my site! I post about games, technology, and other interesting news occasionally!
The PS5 Pro. We've all heard about it at this point, and it's borderline-excessive price of $700 USD at MSRP. The console seems to be aiming to act as an upgrade from the PS5, but right now, it's far too expensive for anyone to reasonably purchase.
The PS5 Pro will be shipping with a better stock GPU that will be up to 45% faster when it comes to rendering. The GPU will have raytracing support, as well. The standard 16gb of memory will be likely getting a speed upgrade as well. This should hopefully result in a noticeable performance increase, especially in large, open worlds. So, why then is everyone complaining?
The PS5 Pro has one glaring issue: Its price. For almost $700 USD (almost $960 CAD), the PS5 Pro is not contending with normal consoles anymore. The PS5 Pro is far closer to the price range of budget gaming PCs which - for the price - are going to end up being a better purchase in the long run. Modern Gaming PCs are able to run a much larger selection of games, along with being able to be used for productivity. Comparing that to a gaming console that has a very hindered selection of exclusive games, and you have a recipe for a terrible launch. This, of course, isn't a secret, and everyone has been bringing this up. The PS5 Pro is just too expensive for console gamers, and those who have that money would rather buy a PC instead.
With the PS5 Pro planning to release in November of this year, only one question remains. Should you buy it? I, personally, say no so far. I'd wait until more games release that can take full advantage of the better specs, and if you are willing to spend a little more than you already were going to on this extremely expensive console, just get a gaming PC.
They're more worth your cash anyways.
